He’s loud, he quacks, and his tempers fly. But if you saw an anthropomorphic white duck with a yellow-orange bill, legs, and feet wearing a sailor shirt and cap with a bow tie, you are bound to fall in love with him. He turns 84 on June 9. So, let’s celebrate this popular duck on and off screen. Let’s dedicate this birthday to knowing him a little better.

- Donald Duck first appeared in May 1934 in an advertisement for The Wise Little Hen in Good Housekeeping magazine. However, his oncreen debut was on June 9.

- Donald Duck’s middle name is Fauntleroy and that makes him the only character to have a middle name.

- Walt Disney is said to have decided on Donald’s name after cricketer Donald Bradman walked out on a duck during a match.

- Donald Duck is known as Aku Ankka in Finland.

- He’s most likely a Pekin Duck as he has a yellow bill and orange feet.

- Donald's license plate number reads 313. This is meant to indicate that he's a very unlucky ducky indeed...Bet you never noticed that.

- He’s the only fictional character to have even won an Oscar in 1943, and he was also one of the presenters of the Oscars in 1958.

- Donald has his own star on the Hollywood ‘Walk of Fame’. He received his star in 2004, on his 70th birthday.

- He is the only popular film and TV cartoon character to appear as a mascot for the sports team of a major American university, namely, the Oregon Ducks at the University of Oregon.

- We know Donald is an uncle to three young ducks Huey, Dewey, and Louie. But what about their mother? Donald’s twin sister— known as Thelma, Della, or Dumbella — has always been a little unclear though a Dutch cartoon vouches that she became an astronaut.
